A late lap from Daniil Kvyat propelled Toro Rosso to the top of the timesheet of day three of Formula 1 pre-season testing at the Circuit de Barcelona.

Alfa Romeo’s Kimi Raikkonen had seem set to hold onto top spot after having lead the times since the end of the morning session.

However, in the final 10 minutes of running, Kvyat recorded a 1m17.704s to edge Raikkonen’s benchmark by 0.058s.

In leading the timesheet, Kvyat ended Ferrari’s streak of timesheet-topping test days, after the Scuderia was fastest of day one and two.

On Wednesday, Sebastian Vettel recorded 134 laps en route to fourth on the timesheet. Vettel impressed during extended runs in the morning, where he posted consistent 1m20s on the C2 compound tyre.

He was beaten to third on the timesheet by Renault newcomer Daniel Ricciardo, who once again split driving duties with team-mate Nico Hulkenberg on Wednesday.

While Renault fixed the “link bar” issue which caused the rear wing to fail while the DRS was active on Tuesday, Hulkenberg – who ended up sixth – did not use DRS during the morning session.

In the afternoon, Ricciardo was free to open the rear wing with the issue fully tested and resolved.

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen enjoyed another productive day, in which he racked up 109 laps en route to fifth-place.

Romain Grosjean and Haas reserve driver Pietro Fittipaldi both suffered breakdowns due to electrical issues.

Fittipaldi ended up eighth on the timesheet after completing 48 laps in the morning, while Grosjean was one place higher up after managing 69 laps, despite his Haas grinding to a halt twice during the afternoon session.

Despite a slow start to the day for McLaren, Carlos Sainz Jr recovered the mileage in the afternoon. The team managed a race simulation en route to a total of 90 laps for the day.

Sainz did suffer a spin at Turn 13 during the morning session and was fortunate to escape from the gravel trap to return to the pits.

Racing Point was once again anonymous, as Sergio Perez completed just 67 laps and ended up 10th. He confirmed after the session that the team’s low mileage has been dictated by a lack of spare parts.

Behind Perez on the timesheet, Mercedes duo Valtteri Bottas and Lewis Hamilton both focused on long run performance. Bottas completed a race simulation during the afternoon session.

After the car arrived in Barcelona at 4am on Wednesday, Williams finally managed to send the FW42 car onto the circuit. Formula 2 champion George Russell completed 23 laps as the team used the afternoon to shakedown the new car.
