Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson revealed he is \u201cdeeply saddened\u201d along with the rest of Scotland today by the incredibly sad news of Billy McNeill\u2019s passing.<\/p>\n
The Celtic legend, who made over 800 appearances for the Hoops and became the first Briton to lift the European Cup in 1967, has been hailed by Ferguson as a \u201ctruly good man,\u201d the club\u2019s official website reveals.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cI, like everyone in Scotland today, is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Billy McNeill.\u00a0He was a giant in Scottish Football, a man with an incredible presence and I\u2019ll always cherish the fact that we entered professional football at the same time. We played against each other on many occasions and, as anyone who played against him will testify, he was the fairest of players.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n <\/p>\n \u201cHe was also a truly good man and will be a loss to everyone who knew him.
