Maurizio Sarri’s nine-day ultimatum got off to the worst possible start, as Paul Pogba came to the fore and dominated Chelsea’s feeble midfield.

The result throws Sarri’s regime into further doubt, with the Blues faithful outwardly venting their frustrations at the Italian manager hurling chants of ‘you’re getting sacked in the morning’ in the way of the home dugout.

Goals from Ander Herrera and Pogba provided the perfect response, however, for caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after Manchester United’s midweek defeat to PSG.

Two headers towards the end of the first-half handed United a healthy lead heading into the break. Pogba’s inch-perfect cross found Herrera free at the back post to nod back across goal and into the net. The Frenchman turned from creator to goalscorer in additional time at the end of the half, turning home Marcus Rashford’s delivery, although Kepa Arrizabalaga should’ve done much better having got a hand to the ball.

Chelsea tamely limped to defeat, almost conceding their fate from the restart as they failed to conjure up any attacking impetus in the second half.
